I had the expectation of beautiful views and an active calendar but it was so much more – seven new friends, a lifetime of memories and more laughs in a week than I can remember. — Becky C, FL
|Sedona, Arizona||March 19 – 24, 2017||$1,895|
Often described as the most beautiful town in America, Sedona is also a wonderful place to play. With the outdoors right at our doorstep, we’ll hike the trails affording the most spectacular views at the most advantageous time of day. Our week will include a collection of easy and moderate hikes and a massage to pamper any overworked muscles. We’ll visit Sedona’s vortexes and learn an appreciation of what they’re all about. Our jeep trip across the red rocks is great fun – you won’t believe how they climb. The Native American ruins we explore are well preserved and provide us with a fascinating peek into an ancient culture. There aren’t many small towns that have such a vast collection of good restaurants and we’ll take full advantage! While still an active trip, this is more relaxed and a little shorter than most Canyon Calling itineraries, and yes there is time for shopping!
Your guide will meet you at 3pm at the Phoenix to Sedona shuttle drop-off point in Sedona; check in to our hotel. Our introductory hike to Devils Kitchen is rated easy/moderate and is a phenomenal natural wonder with the inclusion of the Seven Sacred Pools. Enjoy the fabulous view of Coffee Pot Rock, among many other beautiful red rock formations. Welcome dinner at one of the many excellent Sedona restaurants.
Wow…I don’t know where to start. Sedona Sojourn exceeded my expectations in a huge and powerful way. Everything was perfect, right down to the smallest of details…our beautiful hotel with breathtaking views, the planned tours and restaurants were all excellent, exciting and unique. I must say YOU are the one that transformed an already wonderful trip into a life changing, inspiring journey that will stay with me forever. It was obvious how much you cared about our comfort, pleasure and safety…not to mention your deep knowledge, love and reverence of Sedona and the surrounding areas. My experience was amazing, awakening and oh so profound. Add our extreme joy and outbursts of laughter to the mix, and we have the ultimate ‘it’s a girl thing’experience!!!! I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard! — Debbie M, DE
Oak Creek Canyon is considered one of the top ten drives in America. After breakfast this morning, we’ll explore this canyon and learn of the pioneers who made this their home with stops at Slide Rock State Park and a hike on West Fork Trail. The scenery is stunning, and we’ll tempt you to “ride” the famous slide rock water chute. We’ll lunch at Wildflower, the best sandwich/soup/salad shop in Sedona with great views of Snoopy Rock, and explore the great shops in Uptown before our jeep trip on the legendary Broken Arrow Trail. Who knew jeeps could climb rocks like this! Dinner in Sedona to follow.
After breakfast, we will visit Native American ruins at the Honanki Heritage Site and hike to well-preserved homes of the Sinagua from 1200 AD. We’ll also walk the rock art trail seeing petroglyphs and pictographs from ancient ones through to the modern Yavapai. We’ll drive to the village of Jerome, formally the largest copper mine in Arizona and the wickedest town in the west! Today it’s an enchanting artistic community and a fun place to have lunch, wander and shop. Maybe a walk up to the haunted Grand Hotel, and a visit to the Asylum will interest you? On the way back to Sedona, we’ll stop to watch the sun set on a favorite Vortex. Vortexes are believed to be powerful earth energy centers. Let’s see if you can feel the energy that Sedona is famous for! Dinner in Sedona.
I can’t believe I stood fearless, high in the canyon, free, laughing, with eight extraordinary loving women.— Kathy C, NY
After breakfast, we will visit a recognized Sedona vortex site, the Chapel of the Holy Cross, an amazing blend of sculpture and architecture sprouting right out of the red rocks. The serenity inside this church is as splendid as the views from outside. Next we’ll hike Bell Rock and the Courthouse Butte Loop, one of the most famous hikes in Sedona for both vacationers and locals alike. This easy/moderate trail takes you on a scenic journey of the red rocks with panoramic views that can’t be beat. This is another major vortex and we’ll find a lovely spot for meditation. We’ll lunch in the Village of Oak Creek where wagon train scenes were shot in cowboy movies in the 50’s. After this, you deserve a treat so massages are arranged for this afternoon. We’ll dine this evening at another favorite local spot or if we’re too lazy from our massages, perhaps pizza by the pool at our hotel.
After a sleep-in and breakfast, we’ll walk a short trail that swings down by Oak Creek, Crescent Moon Ranch, and the fabled Red Rock Crossing, where the best photos of Cathedral Rock are taken. There’s time to relax and sun ourselves on the red rocks and enjoy the creek. We’ll picnic lunch at the Red Rock Crossing, then we’ll explore the wonderful arts and crafts village of Tlaquepaque. With more than 40 galleries displaying every type of art imaginable, Sedona is a premier destination for art lovers from around the world – find the art lover in you! We’ll enjoy our farewell dinner at one of the great Sedona restaurants with a red rock view, celebrating each other and this special week together with the sun going down on the red rocks.
I learned I could do things I never would have attempted without the power of the group and our exceptional leader.— Pat L, CT
