This was my first “adventure” women’s trip of many more in the future. Great fun, people and places! — Lorrie L, NV
|Colorado, USA||July 7 – 14, 2018||$2,469|
Mountains were made to move you. Come remember what freedom feels like. Colorado isn’t just a place to visit. It’s a place where you feel alive. We spend much of our time in Crested Butte, where the whole town is a National Historic District, and Aspen, with sweeping views and an international flair. The picturesque peaks of the Paradise Divide are capped with snow or beautifully green. Mount Crested Butte, rises out of the valley as a single entity, as locals call it, ‘the mother rock.’ We will enjoy this outdoor playground as we hike some of the most scenic canyons and trails. We’ll mountain bike on trails that lead to wildflower-peppered valleys, unparalleled mountain vistas and multi-hued desert expanses. We’ll stay in lovely hotels equipped with pools and spas so we’ll have a built-in place to peacefully unwind after all of our activities. A farm-to-table approach is emphasized in these mountain towns and we’ll experience this first hand with an evening culinary class – and eat the delicious results of our efforts! And what trip to Colorado is complete without a tasting at a micro-brewery? We’ll do that too! Join us to breathe in the fresh air and find your zen!
Your Canyon Calling Trip Leader will meet you at the Denver Airport at 3pm. We’ll check into our accommodations, explore downtown Denver and enjoy dinner.
After breakfast we’ll head south and west to our Colorado playground. We’ll stop for lunch, and then this afternoon we’ll hike the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Big enough to be overwhelming, still intimate enough to feel the pulse of time, Black Canyon of the Gunnison exposes you to some of the steepest cliffs, oldest rock, and craggiest spires in North America. After our hike, we’ll head to Gunnison to check into our hotel and enjoy dinner.
After breakfast, we’ll explore Gunnison which offers a vibrant cultural scene, ranching heritage and bountiful natural resources. It’s truly a unique destination for outdoor, culinary and art enthusiasts. This afternoon we head to Crested Butte for 2 nights. Crested Butte is designated the wildflower capital of Colorado, and the whole town is a National Historic District. Crested Butte has retained the adventurous soul and small-town charm that is iconic to Colorado. There is so much beauty in these hills that one of the best ways to experience it is on a mountain bike. We’ll have a guided two- hour beginner’s mountain bike ride. We’ll head back into town to check into our accommodations and have dinner.
After breakfast we’ll enjoy exploring downtown Crested Butte and a day of leisure to prepare us for our hike tomorrow. (Note: lunch is on your own today.) In the absence of traffic lights and chain stores you’ll find a community that openly celebrates life and the unique mountain culture inherent to this pristine Rocky Mountain backdrop. This evening we’ll have a group culinary class that is lots of fun – especially eating the results of our efforts! Overnight in Crested Butte.
After breakfast we’ll hike in Crested Butte and enjoy the Maroon Bells! The Maroon Bells are two peaks in the Elk Mountains and the views of the Maroon Bells are one of the most famous scenes in Colorado – reputed to be the ‘most photographed spot in Colorado”. This is a half day hike of approximately 5 miles. The wildflowers are absolutely awe inspiring as we hike in fields of them, past creeks, and with the mountain views all around us. We’ll drive the scenic route to Aspen, and check into our hotel for a well-earned shower, dinner and relaxation.
After breakfast we’ll enjoy some restorative yoga to heal any kinks from the previous day’s hike, then we’ll explore the town of Aspen and enjoy lunch at one of the many famous spots. This afternoon we’ll enjoy a gondola ride up the summer ski lift for terrific photographs. There’s time for shopping at the many boutiques and fun stores in town. Maybe a swim in the pool or a soak in the hot tub before dinner, and overnight in Aspen.
After breakfast, our drive back to Denver includes many scenic stops along the way for photographs and some time for a little shopping. What trip to Colorado would be complete without a stop at a micro-brewery for a tasting? Of course we’ll do this, then check into our Denver accommodations and enjoy our Farewell Dinner sharing memories of this incredible week! Overnight Denver.
Enjoy breakfast at our hotel with complimentary transfers to the airport for your return flight home.
