Fall E-Newsletter, 2008
A Message from Cheryl
We're all happy to have the heat, the hurricanes and the flooding of the last few months behind us and to be outside enjoying the settled weather that fall brings. I'm flying East tomorrow for an actual vacation and will be visiting friends from Richmond to Toronto. Looking forward to those fall colors. I'll be squeezing in a small site inspection in West Virginia - we tour operators just can't help ourselves! I've always wanted to raft the Gauley River on the dam-release days so am looking forward to that.
Thanks to some great responses to our request for guides in the last newsletter, the Canyon Calling family is about to grow. You'll meet some of these guides who will be training with me on 2009 trips.
Look for our 2009 postcard of trips arriving in your mailbox next week!
Notes from the Trail
Tetons - Yellowstone
Six Americans and two Canadians enjoyed a week in Wyoming with Canyon Calling in August. We lost count of the bald eagles we saw while floating down the Snake River and seeing a moose was the highlight of our hike in Cascade Canyon. The grizzlies stayed out of site as we explored Yellowstone but it was a treat to see a large herd of buffalo swimming the Yellowstone River. As usual, what stood out for all was the wonderful friendships made and the time spent celebrating space with the girls!
"Every day was great and I feel truly blessed to spend quality time with such wonderful women." Kelly B, FL
Best of the West
Havasu was closed until spring after the devastating flood in August so went spent an extra day in Sedona climbing Cathedral Rock, exploring ancient ruins and swimming down Slide Rock. It was a fabulous ten days of weather as we jeeped into Canyon de Chelly, rode horses through Bryce, sloshed up the Virgin River in Zion and swam in Lake Powell.
"Life isn't about the moments you breathe but those that leave you breathless. This journey left me breathless." Jackie K, (WA)
Upcoming Trip - Sedona Sojourn
If Halloween in Sedona sounds like fun then come join us Oct 27 - 31 for our fall Sedona hiking trip. The weather is beautiful and our trees by Oak Creek will be in full color.
Peru and New Zealand Trips
Deadlines for signing up for both these trips are in December. If you've always wanted to go to New Zealand or if you are intrigued by our new trip to the Peruvian Andes, NOW is a great time to start planning. Air New Zealand and Qantas have almost doubled their airfares from last year so unless they have a reality check, we'll be flying from LAX on Air Pacific. The New Zealand women's trip is February 5 - 19 and the co-ed trip is Feb 21 - March 7. The Peruvian Andes trip is not until May 15 - 25 but our one-day hike on the Inca Trail requires pre-registration five months in advance. Both are magical trips offering cultural interaction plus fun activities like white water rafting, hiking, sea kayaking and horse riding.
