Summer E-Newsletter, 2007

Humanitarian Additions to Upcoming Trips

When we were in Morocco developing our trip in 2006, a Berber villager called out to us while we were hiking in the High Atlas.  She was asking for headache medicine.  We emptied our first aid kit and the experience reminded us how much we have compared with so many.  Everyone on this year’s trip bought an extra duffle full of school supplies, fleece clothes, toothbrushes and toys. Distributing these in villages and school bought smiles and gratitude - and warmth to our hearts.  Look out for new multi-activity trips from Canyon Calling with the added dimension of giving a little of our affluence to make a difference.

Featured Trip: Costa Rican Explorer, November 3 – 8, 2007

This was my first adventure trip and I enjoyed every minute – from the beautiful resorts to the howling monkeys, watching the baby turtles run to the ocean, the volcano Arenal and especially rafting the Pacuare.  Thank you for a truly memorable experience.

Greetings from Cheryl

Phew, what a busy time it has been since our last e-newsletter leading trips on three continents.  What better way to tell you of our travels than to hear from our travelers:

Notes From the Trail:

Magic Morocco

Linda F, TX "Thanks for all the exceptional opportunities to meet the Moroccan people.  A new world view opened up for me and gives me the inspiration to reach across the seas.  Morocco is a beautiful, warm and welcoming country."

Jan J, MN "So many unforgettable moments - dinner with Moroccan women in their beautiful home in Marrakech to dinner with women in a Berber mountain hut.  Morocco will be an experience I will treasure always because you take us to the heart of the country - the women."

Sejal S, MA "This trip has left an indelible mark on me and will leave me searching for more adventures in the years ahead.  These last 10 days were full of color and life which will enrich my spirit even as I sit in the dark rooms of my work.”

Gayle D, Canada “This was an amazing trip filled with amazing people, incredible sights and unforgettable memories.  Thanks for designing trips where we can step outside of our comfort zone and just have fun.”

Utah Canyonlands

Gerda C, (MA) “It was time to fulfill my long-held dream of seeing Bryce Canyon.  It was also time to trust in someone else.  I needed to celebrate good health and to challenge myself beyond what I felt were my limits.  My trust was well placed.  The challenges came and I met them and I feel GREAT!”

Amazing Alps

De N (NZ) “I adored Switzerland! I loved hiking along hearing the cow-bells ringing.  Roberta was such an inspiration.  She showed us all that even at 72 the fun never ends.  Thanks for an amazing experience.”

Fire + Iceland

Nancy F, (WI) “This is my first all-women’s trip and I will definitely do it again.  The farm stays and down-home cooking were wonderful.  If forced to pick a favorite experience it would have to be the ride through the icebergs.  Thanks for a brilliant week in the “Land of Fire and Ice.”

Sam P (NJ) “Thanks again for taking the worry out of travel.  What fun tolting on a horse and making all these new friends.  The final dinner was wonderful, singing our made-up song to the Icelanders. I’ll never forget that moment.”

Canadian Rockies #1

Suzy C, MA “I will sleep when I’m 70!  Such an Oh My God week!  The Canadian Rockies truly exceeded my expectations of beauty.  You always provide the much needed laughter and fun that is the heart of your adventures and it you give the women who travel with you the gift of your spirit of adventure.  Thank you.”

Sherryann, PA  “On this my third Canyon Calling adventure, I finally realized what I love best.  Your trips give me the opportunity to play like a little girl.  Swimming in Emerald Lake, lying on the glacier, laughing till my sides hurt – these are the things that I will remember always.”

Sue W, OK  “ These trips allow me to grow as a woman.  I can put life in perspective as I’m hiking, seeing the most incredible scenery ever.  I appreciate and value these opportunities to see the world.”

Canadian Rockies #2

Alyssa Z, MD  “Each day held wonders more magnificent than the last.  I thought Spirit Island was the most amazing view ever and then came Moraine Lake!  We hiked halfway to heaven from Lake O’Hara to Lake Oesa.  Could there be any more amazing way to spend a vacation.”

Carol S, WI  “I haven’t had an overnight with the girls in 40 years so this was absolutely fantastic!  Thanks for all your wonderful planning and taking care of us.  The scenery was gorgeous.”

Cathy C, CA  “ You are the consummate guide, an exceptional conversationalist and a magical group alchemist.  We all trusted you completely and clerly will follow you anywhere!”
