Co-ed Trip to New Zealand
For those of you who can't imagine traveling to New Zealand without your husband or significant other, Canyon Calling is offering a co-ed trip March 8-22, 2008, limited to five couples. See our New Zealand schedule.
Multi Activity Trips
There were three other companies offering trips for women when Canyon Calling was founded in 1996, and they only offered hiking or biking trips. Calling Calling was the first to offer multi-activity trips and this continues to be what we’re all about – hiking one day, white water rafting the next, horse riding, kayaking, ice-walks, camel rides, overnight camping etc. If you like variety in your vacation then Canyon Calling is for you.
Magic Morocco (from Cheryl)
While traveling to Morocco last year on the site inspection I was excited by all I was about to discover in this diverse country but I was truly worried about whether it was possible today to lead westerners safely through an Islamic country. I discovered amazing cultural and geographic contrasts but I couldn’t have been more wrong with my safety concerns. Not only is Morocco a very secular nation, they have a wonderful tradition of welcoming the traveler. I felt very safe in Morocco and I’m looking forward to leading our party of ten there next month, April 24 – May 5. We’ll hike up to, and overnight in, a village in the Atlas Mountains and we’re bringing school supplies and fleece clothing for the children. I’m especially looking forward to our night in a Moroccan home where our hostess and her friends will teach us to cook the national dish, tagine. What a great opportunity to learn about the lives of these women. There’s still time and room for two more travelers to join us!
Featured Trip: Arizona Spectacular, May 26 – June 1
This is the perfect week to travel across the Colorado Plateau to see the best of Arizona. Temperatures average 80 degrees up in the high desert, the water in Lake Powell and Havasu Falls is perfect for swimming and we’re hiking in the canyons before the big heat and outside the flash flood season of July/August.
More Canyon Calling customers have traveled on this trip than any other trip on our schedule. We meet with Hopi, Navajo and Havasupai people, and we explore Canyon de Chelly, Antelope slot canyon, Monument Valley, Rainbow Bridge, dinosaur tracks, Sedona and of course the Grand Canyon. We travel by van, jeep, motor boat and helicopter to see some of the most amazing scenery our country has to offer.
Notes From the Trail:
Fiji - New Zealand (Feb 07)
New Zealand’s weather was perfect and our only windy day was sailing in the Bay of Islands when we needed the wind. Everyone had their special moment: Mary bungy jumped, Susan found an adored wine, Artis left her heart at the marae, Michelle conquered the Tongariro Crossing, J talked dog training with a farmer, Christie was blown away by the ice walk and De saw her own country through the eyes of others. Even Cheryl saw something new with Mt Cook reflected perfectly in the early morning still of Lake Matheson. Everyone agreed that Glenmore House was a great find for our final evening’ accommodation and it was wonderful to sit around the fire on that cool night and reflect on our wonderful journey.
Susan L. (CA) This trip was an adventure within an adventure, sometimes challenging – all fun, exciting and beautiful scenery. Above all the personal reigns – the support and acceptance of our group of women was the best. I’ve been able to be myself and I feel I have been accepted as I am. For me, this is what women do. I am grateful for this service offered and am very satisfied with the end result.
Sedona Sojourn (March 07)
With not a cloud in the sky all week and temperatures 15 degrees above normal, Sedona’s red rocks were the place to be in early March! We hiked up to mesas, over arches and down next to the peace of Oak Creek. We sat on vortexes, explored ruins and jeeped the Broken Arrow. Our favorite place was Cheryl’s house – more relaxing than any restaurant.
Marcy B, (NC) Every hike was wonderful, exactly right – challenging but not daunting, thrilling but not terrifying. The red rocks will always be with me as will your hospitality.
